Import Master Records from a Office Accounting XML Export File

This procedure walks you through the process of importing the master records that have been exported from another company in Office Accounting. See the Office Accounting Help for information about exporting master records to an XML file.

This type of import is usually used when you have already created company and would like to create a duplicate company (or new company) using all the master records you have already created.

To import an XML file:

  1. On the File menu, select Utilities.
  2. Select Import.
  3. In the Import Data dialog, select Microsoft Office Accounting Data and click OK.
  4. In the Import Data wizard, click Browse.
  5. Navigate to the file you want to import.
  6. Click Open.
  7. In the Options section of the Import Microsoft Office Accounting Data page, check or to clear the three check boxes as appropriate, and then click Import.
  8. Explanation of Options

Stop importing when first error is encountered Select to stop importing data if an error occurs during importing.

Import duplicate accounts (the file name(s) will be changed) Select to import duplicate accounts. All the duplicate accounts' names change to distinguish one from another.

Note When you are importing data with identical names across different account types, select this option to ensure that the accounts and balances get imported correctly.

Match system accounts Select to only match the system accounts in the export file. Office Accounting does not import them if selected. If you clear this option, Office Accounting imports the system accounts as duplicates and handles them according to how you choose to handle duplicates.
