Dennis Thompson: Adding Value to Clients’ Businesses Through Well-Rounded ServicesDennis L. Thompson, CPA is a one-man band of sorts. His one-person accounting business services small-business owners in the Greater Seattle area, including Everett, Lynnwood, Edmonds and Shoreline, WA. Although he focuses partly on solving his clients’ QuickBooks problems, Thompson also offers his clients a plethora of Microsoft Office Accounting (OA)-related services, including installation, training, setup, review, support and troubleshooting. In addition, his services encompass Microsoft Access and Excel training.
A Microsoft Professional Accountants’ Network consultant, Thompson is also a QB ProAdvisor and a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants, the Washington Society of Certified Professional Accountants and the Washington Association of Accountants.
Thompson’s goal is to not only solve his small-business clients’ problems, prepare their financial statements and tax returns, and show them how to use their accounting software; his overarching goal is to add value to his clients’ businesses through on-site training, among many other personalized services.
How OA Stacks Up In Thompson’s Eyes “[OA] is pretty straight forward and easy-to-learn,” Thompson says. He likes the “more robust database” and finds OA to be a good alternative for his clients to QB. Thompson also enjoys the ability with OA to link documents as a data source, and the eBay and PayPal integration aren’t too shabby either.
So for an accountant like Thompson who works intensively with both, when does he recommend OA over QB? He tells clients to get OA if they’ve invested copious amounts of both time and money in other Microsoft office applications.
